ENGINEER PLACEMENT IN TIMBER INDUSTRY 2024


GUIDELINES

 A.      Introduction

The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) initiated the Engineer Placement in Timber Industry programme in 2021 to assist SMEs and non-SMEs of the timber industry in Peninsular Malaysia to identify full-time professional employees with technical background to work in the timber industry sector.

The Programme

  • The six-(6) month placement programme is for graduates to get in the timber industry with a proper guidance and assessed by professional mentor.
  • The Engineer to involve in on-job-training towards digital transformation that give a significant impact in business and operational improvement.
  • The Engineer to be evaluated and will be absorbed as permanent staff if deemed fit.

B.      Eligibility Criteria

  • The company shall be a member of any one (1) of the following six (6) timber associations:
  • Malaysian Wood Industries Association (MWIA)
  • The Timber Exporters' Association of Malaysia (TEAM)
  • The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers' Association (MPMA)
  • Malaysian Wood Moulding & Joinery Council (MWMJC)
  • Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC)
  • Persatuan Pengusaha Kayu-kayan & Perabot Bumiputra Malaysia (PEKA) [Association of Malaysian Bumiputra Timber & Furniture Entrepreneurs]
  • The company must be based in Peninsular Malaysia, installed with wood- based manufacturing facilities, in operation for at least three (3) years and is financially stable.
  • The company must be involved in sawmilling, panels and production of downstream wood-based products.
  • Eligible companies are not confined only to manufacturing for export.
  • Companies with common shareholders may apply. However, the companies within the same group shall have different core businesses.
  • For companies that are using/sharing the same site/facility, only one company may apply.

C.      The Incentive

  • Partial reimbursement of Engineer Allowance up to RM7,200 per engineer, limited to a maximum of 3 engineers every year per company/group of companies.

D.      Engineer Requirement

  • The Engineer must be a graduated (Degree) from a higher-learning institution.
  • Field of study:
  • Engineering: Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation or any other related courses.
  • Wood Science: Wood Technology and Industry, or any other related courses.

E.      Benefits Provided by the Company

 i.    Minimum salary of RM2,500 per month (Ringgit Malaysia Two Thousand and Five Hundred) from the commencement date until completion of the programme, but subject to any deduction for sick leave without medical certificate from a medical practitioner approved by the company without replacement of working day thereof and the said sick leave shall not exceed seven (7) days during the term of Engineer Placement Programme;

 ii.    Social Security (SOCSO) contribution

iii.    Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution

F.      Application Procedures

  • Submit Application online via http://mtc.com.my/EngineerPlacement
  • MTC will acknowledge receipt of the application to the applying company.
  • The applying company to submit the required engineer's job description along with a Proof of Concept (PoC) proposal (refer Appendix I) that outlines the engineer's tasks.
  • The company has the option to conduct the recruitment itself or utilise MTC's recruitment arrangements.
  • Once an engineer is selected, the company will prepare an offer letter.
  • MTC will send an approval letter to the applying company upon receiving a copy of the offer letter.
  • Subsequently, the applying company must allow MTC to conduct a site visit during the engineer's placement at the company premises.

G.     Reimbursement

  • Documents to be submitted online for the reimbursement include:
  • Company’s Letter of Offer
  • Copy of Payslips
  • Daily attendance record
  • Engineer’s Evaluation Report (refer Appendix II)
    • Approval for reimbursement is at the sole discretion of MTC.
    • The financial incentive provided is on a first-come, first-served basis until the budgeted allocation is completely utilised in the particular year.
