INTERNSHIP IN TIMBER INDUSTRY PROGRAMME 2024
GUIDELINES
A. Introduction
The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) initiated the Internship in Timber Industry programme (EPIP) in 2021 to assist the timber industry in Peninsular Malaysia to identify prospective full-time employees.
B. The Programme
- The Internship programme is open for undergraduate students who are doing an industrial training in the final semester.
- The programme will take maximum to 6 months to complete (subject to respective university or institution course requirement).
C. Eligibility Criteria
1. The company shall be a member of any one (1) of the following six (6) timber associations:
- Malaysian Wood Industries Association (MWIA)
- The Timber Exporters' Association of Malaysia (TEAM)
- The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers' Association (MPMA)
- Malaysian Wood Moulding & Joinery Council (MWMJC)
- Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC)
- Persatuan Pengusaha Kayu-kayan & Perabot Bumiputra Malaysia (PEKA) [Association of Malaysian Bumiputra Timber & Furniture Entrepreneurs]
2. The company must be based in Peninsular Malaysia, installed with wood- based manufacturing facilities, in operation for at least three (3) years and is financially stable.
3. The company must be involved in sawmilling, panels and production of downstream wood-based products.
4. Eligible companies are not confined only to manufacturing for export.
5. Companies with common shareholders may apply. However, the companies within the same group shall have different core businesses.
6. For companies that are using/sharing the same site/facility, only one company may apply.
D. Incentive
Partial reimbursement of Intern Allowance at RM500 per month (up to RM3,000 per intern) limited to maximum of 4 interns every year per company/group of companies.
E. Undergraduate/Student Requirement
- The Undergraduate/Student must be enrolled for a Degree/Diploma/Certificate programme in a higher learning institution/Polytechnic and internship is pre-requisite for graduation.
- Field of study:
- Engineering: Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation or any other related courses.
- Applied Science: Wood Technology and Industry, Design or any other related courses.
- Business Management: Technology, Industrial, Techno-preneur or any other related courses
F. Application Procedures
- Applying company to submit applications online through the link: http://mtc.com.my/EngineerPlacement
- Upon receiving the application, MTC will acknowledge receipt to the company.
- The company has the option to source student’s itself or through MTC in which the application documents of the students to be provided for selection (subject to availability based on the student’s preferred location).
- Once the company has chosen an intern (either through self-sourcing or MTC selection), reply form need to be sent for student’s acceptance.
- The company must submit a copy of the accepted reply form to MTC for approval letter issuance.
- Subsequently, the applying company must allow MTC to conduct a site visit during the internship period at the company premises.
G. Reimbursement
- Documents to be submitted online for the reimbursement include:
- Allowance payment vouchers or pay slips
- Daily attendance record
- Student(s) internship brief report
- Letter of Offer for OJT Programme (employment) or student performance evaluation. However, please state a reason for not offering employment if the intern is not offered a position in the company.
2. Approval for reimbursement is at the sole discretion of MTC.
3. The financial incentive provided is on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocation is fully utilised.
